Grace Place
On Friday, April 6, join your Grace Place friends in playing some favorite games, like Rummikub and Scrabble, or working on a jigsaw puzzle.  Lunch is served at noon.  This is a friendly community and we hope you will join us and bring a friend!

Service Opportunities on April 7:  Wellspring Saturday Breakfast Ministry and Ambler Interfaith

Wellspring Saturday Breakfast Ministry
Interested in helping us cook, serve breakfast and distribute clothing, toiletries and snacks for up to 80 needy guests?  This shelter ministry at Old First UCC in Philadelphia supports hunger relief efforts by providing a place for guests to enjoy a hot breakfast and fellowship. Guests are also offered the opportunity to select clothing, snacks and toiletries from the clothing cupboard each Saturday.

To join the group (volunteers must be 14 yrs or older), add your name to the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board across from the church office. For more information, please call the church office at 215-887-6117.

Ambler Interfaith
Join us to work with Ambler Interfaith Housing Alliance on Saturday, April 7. One of Grace’s mission partners, this agency provides community-based solutions to bridge the gap between homelessness and independence.  Our jobs on April 7 will include planting, landscaping, and office work. All ages welcome!! Meet at church at 8:30 am to carpool over. We should be done by noon. Please sign up on the bulletin board across from the office. Spring Forward with Adult Education: Family Matters!  
Join us for the series beginning this Sunday, April 8, with our morning session:  Understanding Mental Health: Normal Life Stressors vs Mental Health Issues - What is mental health? Is it simply the absence of a mental disorder, or is there more to our mental well-being? Ray Rife, LCSW will lay the groundwork for our “Family Matters” mini-series by exploring these and other questions. Ray has worked in all phases of mental health service delivery during his career in front-line and administrative roles, including time at Ground Zero following 9/11 and with service members and their families around deployments and redeployment cycles.  Click here for a schedule.  Join us to learn more!
 
SPECIAL EVENING OFFERING on Sunday, April 8 at 6:00 pm: “Dying in Vein:” 
This documentary offers a deeply personal exploration of opiate and heroin addiction that drops you directly into the lives of an addict in recover; a couple trying to get clea; a family grieving the loss of their son, and an Emergency Room Physician trying to save one patient at time. Through these stories, the contemporary belief of 'living life pain free' is explored, as well as the shame and blame that exists around addiction. The film looks at the impact of socioeconomic class on our broken treatment system, and how a group of emergency care physicians are working to save their patients. The Adult Education and Student Ministries Team co-sponsor this intergenerational event for all who are interested, including our high school students and their parents. Discussion will be facilitated by the staff of Renew Family Services.

Keneseth Israel Exchange
Our Kindergarten and 1st grade students have been invited to join their peers at KI on April 8 for music and a discussion on similarities and differences between our congregations.  We will share a snack, read a story, and create a craft together.  Interested children and their parents can meet at KI at 10:00 am and expect to stay until 11:45 am.  If you have any questions please contact khudson@gracejenkintown.org.

Simplified Sunday School
As a result of reviewing the past 2 years of our rotation curriculum, the Children’s Education Team is making a few changes to streamline and simplify both the volunteer and student experiences. Each Sunday our children will continue to experience a variety of methods of interacting with scripture, with the lessons taking place in Muyskens Hall. All students K-5th will participate together. The lessons will be provided by the Children’s Ed Team and will be taught by a Station Leader volunteer with the assistance of 2 Shepherds. Volunteers will sign up to teach or sherpherd for a one-month commitment. The Children's Ed Team is excited to roll out this new program and we are looking forward to church support to make it a success. Jazz Worship - April 22
Join us on Sunday, April 22 at the 10:30 service when we will be inspired through jazz worship led by Warren Cooper.  Warren is a Presbyterian elder and music minister who leads choral workshops and worship development seminars around the country.  A Philly native and a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he is considered a pioneer in jazz worship and sacred jazz.  Warren has a weekly program on WRTI.   We at Grace have come to know Warren through our partnership with Cedar Park Presbyterian Church.  Don’t miss this opportunity - and be sure to invite a friend!

 Interfaith Program – “Faith and Mindfulness”
Join the Women of KI on Wednesday, April 25, at 11:00 am, to explore the origin of “Mindfulness” and how it has spread to US religions.  The panel will include a professor of Asian Studies, as well as Buddhist, Christian, and Jewish clergy.  There will be a Dairy Luncheon to follow.  The Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel is located at 8339 Old York Road, Elkins Park, PA  19027.  There is no cost for the program and lunch.  Please RSVP to Mickie Levin at Mickie6832@comcast.net or 215-698-0314.

Save the Date:  Student Ministry Car Wash Fundraiser!
Saturday April 28, 9:00am-12:00pm on Vista Road
The Middle and High School students are coming together to raise money for this summer’s mission trips!  This money will go directly to the mission trip endeavors allowing as many of our youth as possible to participate.  We hope to see you there!  Donations will be accepted at the car wash!

Cantata Sunday: Stars and Sparrows, April 29
As part of our tradition here at Grace, we have a special Sunday in the fall and in the spring dedicated to worshiping God through music.  On Sunday, April 29 at 10:30 am, the Grace Presbyterian Chancel Choir and organist Kevin Engleman, along with some of the children and youth of our church, will lead us in praise and thanksgiving to our Creator!  The service will feature the music of composer Jonathan Dove (Missa Brevis, Seek Him That Maketh the Seven Stars), and the sanctuary will be decorated by our very own children’s ministry.  A time of “fancy fellowship” sponsored by our Deacons will follow.  Join us for a Sunday filled with music and wonder! 

Music Director Search
The search is underway for a permanent Director of Music.   The Personnel Committee has appointed a search committee comprising Dennis Butler, Chris Sterman, Wendy Browder, Russ Starke. and Susan Dorshimer.  Leslie Gerhard will be the Personnel Committee liaison.  You can find the position description at www.gracejenkintown.org/employment.  Megan Coiley, our Interim Choir Director, is eligible to apply.  Please keep this process in your prayers.

Flower Dedications - Dates Available
The flower chart on the bulletin board in the sanctuary hallway has the following upcoming dates available to dedicate flowers in honor or memory of a special person or occasion:  4/15, 4/22, 5/20, 5/27, and 6/24.  Please add your name to the chart for a special Sunday, or contact the church office to add your name.  

Bring those BOXES! 
VBS will be using cardboard to construct many of our set elements this year, so if you are getting a new appliance or are just an avid Amazon shopper, please save those boxes, break them down, and bring them to church! Adult VBS 2018
Why should the kids have all the fun? This year, for the first time, we will be offering Adult Bible School in conjunction with our week of children’s VBS.  Join Pastor Sandy and Pastor Judy for a week of exploring water and the life of Jonah!  Click here for more details.

VBS Registration OPEN!
Spring is near and summer right behind it! VBS registration for volunteers, child and adult participants, and teachers will open on March 1 and close June 3. A donation of $10 per person/ $35 per family of 4+ is requested. Summer Mission Trips – Register Now!
