Adult Education - The "Neighbor Series"
Adult Ed starts the new year by examining the commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.” Just who is our neighbor? On January 14, we will consider the question, “Who is our Neighbor in Jail?” Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr went to jail 29 times, largely on trumped-up charges? That he entered Morehouse College at the age of 15? That he was ordained to the ministry before he graduated from college? Come learn more about this civil rights leader as we listen to excerpts from “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” in his own voice. We will use images and scripture readings to reflect upon the meaning of MLK Jr’s message in our day.
Flower Dedications - Upcoming Dates Available
The flower chart on the bulletin board in the sanctuary hallway has upcoming dates open to dedicate flowers in honor or memory of a special person or occasion. Please add your name to the chart for a special Sunday, or contact the church office to see if your date is open.
Coffee Hour Treat!
At coffee hour this Sunday, we will once again be serving king cake to mark Epiphany. We will crown the three “kings” who find the baby trinkets hidden in each of the cakes. Tradition holds that a king cake “draws the kings” to the Epiphany. The season for king cake extends from the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas (Twelfth Night and Epiphany Day), up until Mardi Gras, "Fat Tuesday" or Shrove Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent. Some communities have "king cake parties" every week through the Carnival season. In Portugal and France, whoever gets the king cake trinket is expected to buy the next cake for these get-togethers. *****PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN CONSUMING YOUR CAKE!*****

Don’t Hide Your Light Under a Bushel!
No! Have a talent or special interest in something you'd like to share with the rest of us? You can do just that at the Annual Meeting on January 28th! Following the business portion of the meeting, we’ll adjourn to Muyskens Hall for a chili lunch with live performances and exhibits by members of GPC. If you paint or sculpt or do ceramics, bring in samples of your work. Or maybe you collect something, or make crafts. Show us your talent! If you sing, dance, or play an instrument, we’d love to have you share your gifts with us. Contact Jeff Cline at 267-808-5479 or or firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. And, if you are a gifted encourager, do join us – we need all the support we can get!
Good Cooks Needed!
Bring your favorite chili or cornbread to feed 6-8 to the Annual Congregational Meeting on January 28th! Following the business portion of the meeting, which takes place in the sanctuary, we’ll gather in Muyskens Hall for chili, cornbread and other good things to eat. Please contact Christy Pietsch at 267-221-1428 or email@example.com if you are volunteering to bring chili and/or cornbread. If you have a crockpot, please bring your chili in it. While we share our meal, we’ll also share our gifts of interest and talent! See flier for more details!
