March 30, 2017
The Deacons of Grace are actively engaged in a new outreach to our congregation called the Parish Plan. We are interested in updating information for our out-of-area and college students. If you are living out of the area, or are a college student (or their parent) but maintain an active membership at Grace, please take a moment to contact us with your current home address, temporary college address, email address and cell phone number. This helps us maintain an intentional ministry of communication between our members and their church. Please contact the church office with any updated contact information at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 215-887-6117. Thank you in advance for your assistance!
April 2: “Seeing the Underside and Seeing God” – Join us for a viewing of Krista Tippett’s interview with Nadia Bolz-Weber, Lutheran pastor and founder of The House for All Sinners and Saints in Denver, CO. How do we see church? Who is the “other” in our midst? Can a pastor wear her heart on her sleeve – or a sleeve on her arm? Join Pastor Judy for an hour sure to provoke discussion around difference and tradition.
April 9: Pastor Judy will open this session with “Scattered Palms,” a visual liturgy for Palm Sunday. We will then listen to a film clip of Richard Rohr speaking on the conflict of the cross. These offerings will be interspersed with participatory readings of the Palm Sunday scripture texts, and we will create our own cloak to throw down in front of Jesus. Join us as we enter Jerusalem at the beginning of Holy Week.
Easter Festival and Pancake Brunch
Please join us on Sunday April 9th for the 25th Annual Easter Festival following the conclusion of the Palm Sunday 10:30 service. There will be great crafts and fellowship. This year we will also have a pancake brunch for all church members.
Special Music Sunday
On Sunday April 30th in the 10:30 worship service, professional musicians from Philadelphia and Princeton will join the Grace Church choir, conducted by Andrew Leslie Cooper, to present “Little Organ Mass” by Joseph Haydn. Church Sonatas by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as prelude and postlude music will also be featured. Mark your calendar and please invite others who may enjoy this special worship service.
Please make your reservation to attend the Spring Social for the benefit of Student Ministries. This casual event will be held Friday, May 5, (Cinco de Mayo) at the residence of DeAnna and Kip Schaefer, 730 Wyndale Road, Jenkintown. The Schaefers will provide tacos, chips, salsa and beverages. You are welcome to bring a favorite appetizer or dessert. Donations will be gladly accepted to benefit the Youth Mission Trips this summer. Wellspring’s Saturday Breakfast Ministry
Volunteers needed on Saturday, May 6th. On the first Saturday of each month, a small group from Grace prepares-serves breakfast, and distributes clothing and toiletries for up to 80 needy guests . This shelter ministry at Old First UCC in Philadelphia supports hunger relief efforts by providing a place for guests to enjoy a hot breakfast and fellowship. Guests are also offered the opportunity to select clothing, snacks and toiletries from the clothing cupboard each Saturday.
To join the group (volunteers must be 14 yrs or older.), add your name to the sign-up sheet located on the bulletin board across from the church office. Meet at Grace and leave by 7:45 am to return by noon. For more information, please call the church office at 215-887-6117.
Easter Lily Dedications
On Easter Sunday morning, our Sanctuary will be adorned with beautiful Easter lilies. If you would like to dedicate a lily in memory or honor of a loved one, please complete the online dedication form or find one in the church bulletin on Sunday. Dedications are due to the church office by Monday, April 10th, to be included in our Easter Sunday bulletin. The lily plants are then delivered to our shut-ins after the 10:30 worship service on Easter Sunday, April 16th. If you are able to help deliver a plant or two after the service, please indicate so at the bottom of this dedication form. Thanks to all who support our Deacons with these donations and deliveries.
Save the date Friday May 5th for an Adult Spring Social and fundraiser for the benefit of our Grace Church Student Mission Trips to be held at the residence of DeAnna and Kip Schaefer. Evite notices will be sent in the near future. Please plan to attend a great evening of fellowship to benefit our youth. Feel free to call the church office for more details during April and until the day of the event as RSVPs are required to help us plan.
One Great Hour of Sharing
One Great Hour of Sharing offering will be collected during Lent, through Easter Sunday, April 16th. By giving, you are supporting ministries working in direct response to the ways God has called us to share in Isaiah 58. You are helping agencies of the Presbyterian Church (USA) provide access to sustainable food systems, aid and shelter for those who are impacted by disaster, and resources for communities working to loose the bonds of oppression and injustice. For more information please visit:onegreathourofsharing.org. Please give generously.
