Grace Place – Upcoming Programs
On Friday, Oct. 20, The Historical Society of Montgomery County will reveal some of the amazing structures of our region, their history and the people who created them.
On Friday, Nov. 3, Julie Coopersmith will present a program on Mindfulness. Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night and not be able to quiet your mind to fall back asleep? Or perhaps you might have been in a movie theater and not been able to focus on the movie. If you have had these common experiences, Mindfulness might be for you!
Come learn about Mindfulness, why it matters, and how it might support you in living your life more fully. In this presentation, we will talk about what Mindfulness is, how it might apply to you, and then do activities to support focus in the moment. Studies on Mindfulness show that it:
*Aids with building focus
*Supports stress reduction
*Facilitates curiosity and a non-judgmental spirit
Lunch is served at noon and programs begins at 12:45 pm. Come early and join your Grace Place friends in playing some favorite games, like Rummikub and Scrabble, or working on a jigsaw puzzle. This is a friendly community and we hope you will join us-and bring a friend!
If you have been attending Grace and would like to learn more about the church, or if you would like to find out what is involved in church membership, an upcoming event is for you. Next Step is required for those who would like to become church members, but you may attend without any obligation to join. This is an informal, no-pressure opportunity to learn more and get your questions answered. Next Step will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, 9-11 am. Child care will be available upon request. If you would like to attend, or if you have any questions, please contact Pastor Sandy Hull at firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Oct. 30.
Breathing Room Foundation - Yard Work
Yard work volunteers provide a huge service to a Breathing Room family. Surgery, recovery and cancer treatments often result in exhaustion and physical limitations.
Looking out the window at an overgrown yard increases a recipient’s stress. A yard work volunteer rakes, trims, plants and mows the yard back to a beautiful oasis for the family to relax and enjoy time together. We will be meeting on Nov. 4 at 9am at Grace and dividing into groups (rain date is Nov. 5 at 1:30pm). Sign up here.
Greetings from North Korea
Join us on Saturday Nov. 4 for an evening of insight and inspiration as we welcome Jinhye (Esther) Jo, a North Korean who, with the help of the underground church was able to defect from oppressive rule. Jinhye will speak to the way in which the church - and her faith - were fundamental in bringing her to America. She will also discuss the outreach of a non-profit she's set up with her sister, who coincidentally is named Grace, and their work in assisting other hopeful North Korean defectors in finding asylum in the United States and a relationship with Christ.
Jinhye's discussion will begin at 5 pm in the sanctuary with a potluck dinner to follow in Muyskens Hall at 6 pm. For the potluck: if your last name begins with:
A-G, please bring a hot dish to serve 6-8 people.
H-M, please bring a salad or vegetable to serve 6-8 people.
N-Z, please bring a dessert to serve 6-8 people.
Parents of students in both middle and high school are encouraged to attend this event with their children. Childcare will be provided for infants and toddlers. Jinhye’s powerful story serves as reminder for all of us to consider what it means to “proclaim the gospel for the salvation of humankind.”
Those unable to attend Jinhye's Saturday, Nov. 4 discussion are invited to hear her speak during our Adult Education class on Sunday, Nov. 5 beginning at 9:30 am.
This event is brought to you by the Adult Education and Evangelism Teams and hosted by the Deacons.
Jazz Worship November 5
On Sunday, Nov. 5, at the 10:30 service, we will be inspired by jazz worship led by Warren Cooper. Warren is a Presbyterian elder and music minister who leads choral workshops and worship development seminars around the country. A Philly native and a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he is considered a pioneer in jazz worship and sacred jazz. Warren has a weekly program on WRTI. We at Grace have come to know Warren through our partnership with Cedar Park Presbyterian Church. Don’t miss this opportunity—and be sure to invite a friend!

Church World Service - Blankets+
Thank you to all who have donated to support Blanket Sunday at Grace, which helps Church World Service help people in crisis. Your support helps provide families who have lost their homes with blankets for warmth and shelter, and with clean, safe water. This is a worldwide need and also a very real need in our country following the recent hurricanes. Donations can be made through the month of October by sending a check to the church office or dropping it in the offering plate on Sunday. Checks may be made out to Grace Presbyterian Church with “CWS” on the memo line.
Third quarter offering statements have been sent out. If you find you are behind year to date for your planned or pledged giving to Grace, please try to catch up as you are able.
If you do not currently receive giving statements by email and would like to, please contact the financial secretary at firstname.lastname@example.org, and provide the email address (for joint contributors, you can submit one or two email addresses) where you would like statements sent going forward.
