At Grace Presbyterian Church, children's ministry (birth through 5th grade) is an essential and intentional part of the life of the church. We are committed to enabling and empowering each child to grow in age-appropriate Christian discipleship with the eyes of their hearts enlightened and with the spirit of wisdom and revelation. (Ephesians 1:17-18)
Children delight in learning about God, Jesus, the Spirit and Christian values as they develop their own faith through weekly classrooms or our rotation model approach to Sunday School. The premise of our curriculum is to teach all students, Kindergarten through 5th grade, the same themes on their respective levels. In the rotation model, students will explore bible verses and stories of one theme through music, art, movies, science, drama, dance, cooking, storytelling, and fellowship that change each week of a 4-6 week unit.
Within the unit, there will be four Sundays of rotations mixed with Grace Gatherings, where all children will be together, and Children’s Worship Sundays where the service will be geared toward the youth.
Sunday school for children 2 years through 5th grade takes place during the 10:30 worship service from September through May. Summer Sunday school is available for children ages 3 - 8 from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Children begin the service with their families and are called forward for the “Word to the Children”. Following a prayer, children are dismissed to their classes or rotation by age/school grade:
INFANT & TODDLER CARE
Warm and loving childcare for infants 3 months old up to 2 years old is available in the nursery (Lamb Room) during all worship services.
Figs (2 & 3 years old)
Our Figs class meets each week upstairs in the Whale room with the same lead teacher for 6 weeks. Children learn about God through a play-centered approach. Each week in the whale room we will be singing, creating, praying, and playing together using Bible stories and classic Bible songs.
Apples (4 & 5 years old)
The children in the apple class meet each week upstairs in the Lion room. The apples sing, play, and learn favorite age-appropriate stories of the Old and New Testament. They witness the amazing wonders of God's world through the eyes of many faithful servants. We relate the stories to their lives in ways they can easily understand each week in the Lion Room.
Fish (Kindergarten & 1st Grade)
Fish will participate in the rotation model and meet in the pew with their fish symbol for service. They will be escorted by a Volunteer Shepherd to their weekly rotation and taught by a Volunteer Station Leader.
Loaves (2nd Grade)
Loaves will participate in the rotation model and meet in the pew with their fish symbol for service. They will be escorted by a Volunteer Shepherd to their weekly rotation and taught by a Volunteer Station Leader.
Grapes (3rd Grade)
Grapes will participate in the rotation model and meet in the pew with their fish symbol for service. They will be escorted by a Volunteer Shepherd to their weekly rotation and taught by a Volunteer Station Leader.
Olives (4th & 5th Grade)

In addition to Sunday School, there are annual programs of fun, fellowship and faith for children and families including the Advent Workshop, Sunday School Open House, Parents Night Out, Easter Festival and Vacation Bible School.
We are currently using the Walk With Me curriculum published by Faith Alive Christian Resources. This reformed curriculum focuses on nurturing and encouraging children to make a personal commitment to Christ instilling knowledge and challenging children to respond with their hearts and lives.

Grace Nursery School
Grace Nursery School is a wonderful, warm and caring environment for young children ages 2 to 5 (PreK). Parents are encouraged to visit the school in session before enrolling a child. Please contact us to make arrangements to visit and to request an application. Grace Nursery School is a non-sectarian weekday school licensed by the State Board of Private Academic Schools since its founding in 1954. Each class is under the direct supervision of a trained state-certified teacher and assisted by another qualified teacher.
The purpose of Grace Nursery School:
- Provides boys and girls with a happy, relaxed nursery school atmosphere where each child can grow and mature at his or her own individual rate of growth.
- Provides support needed for a happy transition from home life to the larger world of elementary school. At Grace, children have the opportunity to develop in many ways through a variety of activities. These activities include art, music, and free play to enhance creativity; playground equipment, large blocks, and wheel toys to develop motor control; language, story time, puzzles, show & tell, games, science, and numbers to develop intellectual stimulation. Trips, special programs and cooking experiences are important parts of the program. Periods of active play are alternated with quiet learning experiences. These experiences nurture the emotional, social, cognitive and physical growth of each individual thus focusing on the whole child. Our aim is to insure a positive first-school experience for all.
- Opens mid-September and continues through May with vacations at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December and one week in the Spring (Easter).

Early Drop Off & Extended Day
Grace Nursery School provides early drop off and extended day options. Early drop off is from 8:30-9:15 am, and children will be supervised by a Nursery School staff member. The cost per day is $5.
Our extended day program begins at 12:00 pm and ends at 2:30 pm. Children are supervised by a Nursery School staff member and should pack a lunch. The cost per day is $17. Pizza will be offered on Fridays, and students need to pack a snack and drink.
For any family wishing to take advantage of both early drop off and extended day the cost per day is $20. Our goal is to make this program an enrichment extension of the school day. The children will have an opportunity to create, read, experiment and play together on a daily basis.
