Children delight in learning about God, Jesus, the Spirit and Christian values as they develop their own faith stories through music, art and fellowship.
At Grace Presbyterian Church, children's ministry (birth through 5th grade) is an essential and intentional part of the life of the church. We are committed to enabling and empowering each child to grow in age-appropriate Christian discipleship with the eyes of their hearts enlightened and with the spirit of wisdom and revelation. (Ephesians 1:17-18)
In addition to Sunday School, there are annual programs of fun, fellowship and faith for children and families including the Advent Workshop, Easter Festival and Vacation Bible School.
Sunday school for children 2 years through 5th grade takes place during the 10:30 worship service from September through May. Summer Sunday school is available for children ages 3 - 8 from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Children begin the service with their families and are called forward for the “Word to the Children”. Following a prayer, children are dismissed to classes divided by age/school grade:
INFANT & TODDLER CARE
Warm and loving childcare for infants 3 months old up to 3 years old is available in the nursery (Lamb Room) during all worship services.
TODDLERS (2 & 3 YEARS OLD)
These little ones learn about God through a play-centered approach using Bible story books.
PRESCHOOL (4 & 5 YEARS OLD)
These children learn favorite, age-appropriate stories of the Old and New Testament as they witness the amazing wonders of God's world through the eyes of many faithful servants.
KINDERGARTEN & FIRST GRADE
This group of children discovers the wonders of God's creation through stories from Genesis and throughout the Old Testament that illustrate the power and love of God. They also explore the birth and life of Jesus and learn about Jesus' constant presence with his people through the eyes of Peter and Paul.
2ND & 3RD GRADES
Children in this class synthesize daily experiences with stories from Genesis, as well as stories about the prophets and about Jesus Christ. They also look at worship, prayer and the sacraments to help explore their relationship with God and others. Upon entering the third grade, children are given their very own Bible.
4TH & 5TH GRADES
At this age, children focus on the redemptive history of God and God's mighty acts through the study of Joseph, Moses, judges, kings and kingdoms, as well as through the ministry and miracles of Jesus, the resurrection and ascension, and the spread of the gospel from Jerusalem to Rome in the Book of Acts.
We are currently using the Walk With Me curriculum published by Faith Alive Christian Resources. This reformed curriculum focuses on nurturing and encouraging children to make a personal commitment to Christ instilling knowledge and challenging children to respond with their hearts and lives.

Grace Nursery School
Grace Nursery School is a wonderful, warm and caring environment for young children ages 2 to 5 (PreK). Parents are encouraged to visit the school in session before enrolling a child. Please contact us to make arrangements to visit and to request an application. Grace Nursery School is a non-sectarian weekday school licensed by the State Board of Private Academic Schools since its founding in 1954. Each class is under the direct supervision of a trained state-certified teacher and assisted by another qualified teacher. Grace nursery school:
- Provides the boys and girls with a happy, relaxed nursery school atmosphere where each child can grow and mature at his or her own individual rate of growth.
- Provides the support needed for a happy transition from home life to the larger world of elementary school. At Grace, children have the opportunity to develop in many ways through a variety of activities. These activities include art, music, and free play to enhance creativity; playground equipment, large blocks, and wheel toys to develop motor control; language, story time, puzzles, show & tell, games, science, and numbers to develop intellectual stimulation. Trips, special programs and cooking experiences are important parts of the program. Periods of active play are alternated with quiet learning experiences. These experiences nurture the emotional, social, cognitive and physical growth of each individual thus focusing on the whole child. Our aim is to insure a positive first-school experience for all.
- Is a cooperative school involving parents as an active part of the program on a scheduled basis. This participation averages 4-5 mornings throughout the year so that parents have the opportunity to observe their child in a social setting. We believe that both parents and children benefit from this cooperative venture since the school works closely with the home. Although it is important to our program, parent involvement is voluntary and not a requirement for registration.
- Opens mid-September and continues through May with vacations at Thanksgiving, two weeks in December and one week in the Spring (Easter).
Parents are encouraged to visit the school in session before enrolling a child. Please contact us to make arrangements to visit and to request an application.
